Ingrown Hair

Ingrown Hair

Nothing ruins a fresh wax like ingrown hair on your vaginal lips (aka labia) and bikini line. Here are our tried-and-true tips to get the most out of your next wax!

Time it Right

If you menstruate, avoid booking your appointment during your period. All those hormones can really up the ouch factor.

When in Doubt, Grow it Out

Longer hair means better results (and less ingrowns) because the wax has something to grip. Hair that’s about the length of a grain of rice is ideal.

Hydrate

Dry skin means dry hair, and dry hair is more prone to break during a wax - leading to more irritation and ingrown hair. Aim for at least eight glasses of water every day the week leading up to your appointment, and give your skin a boost of moisture with a vulva-safe serum like Hydrate Ever After.

Prioritize Hygiene

Choose a salon who keeps it clean - wax applicators and strips should only be used for one pass and double dipping is a no-go. Before your wax, cleanse the area with a gentle wipe. Stash our travel-friendly wipettes or A Clean S-Wipe in your purse to make post-wax cleanup a breeze.

Exfoliate

The best thing you can do to prevent ingrown hair is to exfoliate. But skip the scrubbing and opt for a non-irritating option like Buff & Brighten to slough off dead skin cells that can cause ingrowns.

Soothe

If you’re going full Brazilian, we can’t say enough good things about a post-wax moisturizer like Rescue Balm to avoid irritation and help prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Happy waxing!
